I’m not sure if it is because I was in LA last week, or if it is because it’s officially March – but I feel like spring might just be on it’s way. Either way I’m pretending it is.
We (thankfully) didn’t have the worst winter, but I’m still ready for summer. Mostly because I’m sick of everyone being sick around me.
No matter where I go.. someone is blowing their nose, sneezing everywhere, or complaining that they aren’t feeling great.
I, on the other hand, am refusing to get sick. I had pneumonia at Christmas time, and it was a huge wake up call that I was NOT taking care of myself! I had to work from home for almost 2 weeks and spent them in my room diffusing eucalyptus essential oil and drinking chicken stock. Weekend activities included Netflix and coloring in my adult coloring book. This was nice and relaxing for about 2 hours, and then I progressively went stir crazy.
Since I’m not interested in spending any more time being sick- I’ve taken a 4 steps daily to make sure that it doesn’t happen again.. and ya know what? It’s worked. So far I haven’t had as much as a sniffle. Here’s what I did:
Sleep – My number one tip for staying healthy is to sleep! Everyone is different and needs different amounts of sleep, but I personally need at least 7 hours. I made it a priority to turn off my phone and computer, and get in bed at a reasonable time to make sure I’d get enough sleep. While you sleep your muscles recover (and grow!), and your organs repair and heal. If you’re someone who claims you ‘don’t need sleep’ or that ‘sleep is for the weak’- I challenge you to try to go to sleep an hour earlier than you normally do and see how different you feel. I guarantee you will notice a difference!
Essential Oils – I started using essential oils when I got pneumonia, and haven’t stopped since. I diffuse essential oils throughout the day and before bed, drink essential oils to help boost my immune system, and used them to naturally relieve head/muscle aches.
Water – I drink 120 oz of water a day. It seems like a lot.. but if you break it up throughout the day, it is easy to accomplish. Water helps keep to maintain your body temperature, remove waste, and lubricate your joints. If you’re having trouble drinking water – try setting goals throughout the day. I try to drink 24 ounces for every two hours. This keeps me on track for the entire day. BlenderBottle’s are 24 oz and have the markings on the side which makes it easy to track!

Vitamins– Vitamins are an important part of helping to prevent you from being sick! While I try to get my necessary vitamins through my meals, it isn’t always easy. For years I was taking a bunch of pills to supplement my diet.. but realistically, no one wants to be choking down horse pills at 5AM before hitting the gym. I found myself skipping taking my vitamins, and that isn’t a good habit to get into.
Last month I was able to try these Smart Pants Women’s Complete Vitamins… Total game changer! The vitamins actually taste like you’re eating candy. The bottle reads: “Because you’re not just a single category or a function. Because you’re not just “Sleep” or “Beauty” or “Stress” or “Energy” or “Bones.” You’re much more than that. You’re all in one.
And so are we.” How true is that?! On the left you’ll see a probiotic, hair/skin/nails vitamin, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and Lysine. I was talking different Vitamins for different things- because I have so many different needs. I love that Smarty Pants is all in one AND that they taste yummy
I’ve stopped taking all the vitamins on the left.. and swapped them for the gummies. However – when I travel, or I’m not feeling my best – I’ll take an extra Vitamin C pill or eat an orange- just to be safe! Have you been slacking on your vitamin intake? No worries – I’ve got an awesome giveaway for a Smarty Pants Prize Pack below!
I hope these tips help you to stay happy and healthy during the last few months of cold and flu season. Remember to listen to your body and take care of it regardless of what ever commitments or responsibilities you have. Your health is so important!
